Is this blood staining on this ammo pouch?

First off let me state that I do not seek out KIA or blood stained items. It doesnt matter to me what it is, Im just curious. I was given this pouch yesterday by my friend Chris, user studentofhistory, and upon inspection it looks like a red substance leaked onto the leather and down pooling at the bottom slightly. The rivets and d ring are aluminum or zinc or whatever, not magnetic, so no pitting. Thoughts on the substance?

I think you could be right that it is indeed blood.

Kind of a sobering thought. If it is blood then imagine the story behind that pouch.I have a pair of US M1938 leggings that have some "curious" dark spots on them.

It looks a lot like leather liner in helmets that have been blood stained. I think it is.

It sure looks like blood, but it does not necessarily mean it is human blood.

Perhaps the pouch was used for hunting purposes postwar and got in contact with animal blood that way?

And then the soldier was so angry for getting shot he ripped the strap when trying to open the pouch to reach for some ammo to try to ......... and then ......

Don't know it it's a coincidence, but the song "back to life, back to reality" is just playing

Yes, and could be oil, paint and lots of other things too.
The only thing to see if it is human blood is to test the dna.

There is no way you will know if this is blood just from looking at it, as it could also be a number of other things.

Could be almost anything from any time after the war. I was an extra in a History Channel production about 10 years ago, the actors were all wearing original field gear and at the end there was stage blood on everything. What does stage blood look like after decades?
