Here are pictures of something I’m very proud to have acquired. Not only is it a relatively rare, and interesting piece, it also has a certain amount of history behind it. Scratched into the back is the name, city and date that it was “liberated”.

Captain Gael and his driver had spotted the plane shot down in a field on the western edge of the island while participating in Operation Husky. He and his driver used an ax to chisel the panel out.
Interestingly enough however, the panel is actually from a Messerschmitt – Bf109. I believe that JG 53 and JG 77 were the units stationed in Sicily during this time. I read somewhere that there were 100 axis fighters downed between July 10th, and July 14th. Time to dig into the books….
