No, they are not . why ? cause the M34 or M39 tornisters have no tear drop holes in support straps !

You are correct, I've taken a look at my early tornisters and the form is indeed the same....

I never took the time to closely inspect the tornister belts (my personal interest lies more in the later M39 tornisters)

      Thanks for pointing that out....

Indeed, it looks like the Tornisters have the "normal" buckle type auxiliary straps and not the tear drop.

Maybe they put on the aux straps later but one would expect (IF this is a late war Y strap) that the stitching of the leather backing on the aux straps would show on the front....

        Interesting piece....

btw, never seen a back strap like the one shown here

My opinion is that german army remade straps in the end of war, but straps are from 1940-1942 ? I have found here straps dated 1942 and not stitched thrue leather. Same story as french or canvas spare parts remade straps. They need Y-straps for regualar backpacks which were more simply to produce than pony fur backpacks.

Look at the width of the straps: ex-French Y-straps IMO.
Also the black rear belt hook looks to be of French origin.
Very strange way to connect main straps to rear ring. Two folded over pieces of leather that are originally not connected to the main straps. Never seen that before...

IMO late-war Y-straps, made with ex-French and German components.

Could you please measure the strps width as indicated on the picture ??

I guess that will help more then guessing

The width was also what made me think they are french..... plus the fact that the hooks look a little "loose"

Did some research and the backstrap comes from a french backpack

Found the article in Militaria Magazine nr 268

So I'm pretty sure the whole thing is made of french material......

Great research! Certainly a pair of "Jerry Rigged" French straps! -wolfey
