Heres a leather case. It has two compartments and what looks like pencil slots inside large size approx 10 high. there are belt loops and d rings. nicely marked.
not in my area of collecting what would be a good price on estand..

    Thanks

I hate to tell you,but I do have a few of these pouches myself and didn't know what they were for, until I discovered that they are musician belt pouches;the musicians carried their sheets of musics in these"Marschtaschen" made of brown or black leather!
I've had mine for free many moons ago, but I've seen them auctioned or listed with all kinds of descriptions, one more martial than the other but the bitter truth is that they remain"Marschtaschen fur Stabhornisten"...I added not because I don't like music, rather bacause a pouche for a WaffenSS Panzer-Fallschirm-Untersee-Laptanzer-Pioniere would be somewhat more glamorous!

            Hi

I have a couple of those pouches too, according to my sources, Forums and elsewhere, the pouch should be a mapcase used by the artillery personal. I guess those guy's have something very heavy to put in the case together with pencils etc. maybe tools for the piece's, aimeng instruments? Who knows.

Anyway not for map's alone for sure, have a look at the heavy leather construction the d-rings and belt straps all designed for heavy loads.
            Regards

I've taken my description from one of WW2 vintage Reibert handbooks for WH soldiers, which, in my humble opinion are far more "textbook"than anything and anyone else! The leather thickness is "standard"for german pouches bigger than K98k ammo pouches, belt straps are here to secure the pouch to the belt(even musicians wore belts !) and the D ring are the typical D rings the carrying strap is secured to!Of course......an Artillery Officer is far more "glamorous"than a Drum Major, but then I'd say that "IMHO" these pouches were used by WSS tankers or He111 crews to put their belongin into when bombing Coventry...or Dak Pioneers to.....!
I'm glad you're convinced that they're mapcases(7,5 cm wide and made like this when there was the other, soft one which was bigger and much more comfortable?)used by the Artillery my friend, but this is not quite correct I'm afraid, and here you go one picture taken from a book...I don't trust books that much but at least this time a post-war book reports what the official WH handbooks wrote!

P.S.;should an NCO or an Officer have used this case to carry his maps, papers, tools or even food I don't think that they'd have put him before a firing squad for that

                Hi guys !!
Manny - in this book this pouch indeed is decribed as a musician puch... - but these pouches are quite common.... and I am not sure how many bands was in the wehrmacht.. but judgeing by the number of pouches on the market - every one out of 10 soldiers should be a musician

or maybe there is not enough interest in those pouches - thats why thy are often offered for sale... ?
to me it's more like all use utility pouch .. than only musician pouch...
                just my opinion...

                  Hi Manny

Great description with a lot of humour! I like it. Agree about the construction. But anyway I still wanna push on because I would be more than happy finding out according to my own. Some here know I collect pouches, and I have a awful lot all kinds and funny enough I actually have a pouch, that look exactly alike the one you show the "bandsman's one" from the front. But the leather is much thinner and the whole is much more like a mapcase, without beeing one? Believe me as well my collection of map cases is numerous.
What I think it could be nice with a picture taken of the backside of the "bandsman"? Showing straps etc.
Regarding the various meanings about the use, some people as I feel you indicate are very fond having items with a very sexy name or description as mentioned by you before like calling a thing " SS sonderspecialgruppemitlicencetokill" pouch.
Please allow me saying to all I could'n care less for names whatever the use have been. Even if that have been the case for Hitlers false teeth or simillar. I give a S*** I wanna know the real name and use.

                  Mein ein Pfennig.

                    Hi Kuligow

Just my words, but as indicated pouches are very alike from pictures, the pouch in speach the (black one) are indeed very regid and heavy, the Germans would never produce such a pouch up to 1942 and beyond, if that only was for a bandsman gloves etc. I have another one from 1936 and find that just alike to the 1942 made. Please Note the WaA stampings I know this this acceptance are found on much equipment and other places but mostly and mainly on weapon related equipments.
But again most strange thing why not on K98 ammo pouches?? Never found one. When some WaA are found on K43 pouches I wonder why????

                    Noch ein pfennig.

I'd suggest you to buy less pouches, save some money and instead of guesstimating try and get hold of WW2 period Reibert Handbooks for the German Armed Forces......you'll find everything described there!
Moreover...the fact that Waa were "mostly and mainly" used for weapon related items is not at all correct!Gew.43 magazines contained magazines though, which were actually weapon components, that's why pouches are marked, while K98 pouches contained "loose"rounds...yes,I know in clips...I collect k98s rifles and 8mm ammo!
The only difference here is that I can give fact and figures and that's what our friends need....guesstimations are worth zero!

You should buy some Reiberts too Kuli;"All regiments, indipendent battalions and units of corresponding size but termed otherwise, except medical battalions had a band(Musikkorps)and a fife and drum corps"!If take your time and do some counts you'll soon(well...so to speak!)ascertain how many WH,KM,LW and WSS bands there were in WW2 Germany!
The book I was referring to give an EXACT description of the pouch, so, to anyone who care, I could give the name of the beek and he could go and check by himself just as easily!

i also own one of these pouches, and according to Uniforms and Traditions of the German army 1933-1945 by Angolia/ Schlicht VoI 3 page 572 there is an army field band pictured and several members wearing the pouch.
                          JFYI

                              Hi

I looked it up in my German version of the mentioned book page 473, no pictures but a description of the "Marschtasche" telling the size are and I checked it on my own, almost correct 23 x 20 x 7,5 cm. The book say WaA on the back, mine WaA is on the side, I guess minor differences. So I guess Manny are correct. Well done. btw I actually have a lot of books but without pictures, therefor hard to find I guess.
Anyway I don't get it? Why do a pouch like this have WaA in the first place? Could really not be needet for warfare? Do someone have the knowledge to explain me! The whole idea where, how and when the use of inspection and WaA stamping took place.
For obvious reasons some parts must be inspected and prooffed, but why a Marschtasche and similar non warfare and weapon related items. I haven't found the explanation in any book yet.

                              I forgot to say.
I would still love to have a look at the rear of the pouch on the picture, why as I said in those days many pouches was made for all kind of purposes.

                              Regards
                              Kim
