The markings you can see on your can is typical marking for bread in can. congrats for this great score !

by the way ; sorry for my previous post - it seems I have ate some words and twist letters so it might been incomprehensible
    wow, great information....
Thanks for checking the book....I have to get a copy of it as well

Thinking about it, it's just amazing that there are unopened can's around considering the fact that thousands of guys starved to death back then.....

Hi Alex, Girls are always curious
During Metal Detecting with my Girl Friend I found 1970´s DDR Meat can and my Girl said "oh Great, good fine East German Meat mhhh" opened it immediately and ate it, that´s tough

            Hello Hermsdorf,

if you found the can during metal detecting in the 70's, it would be ok....
If you found the can in recent years I'd have to say you got one "tough woman" on your side

Per PM request, here are a few more pictures of the marking on the can, it's hard to capture it on the picture but I guess thats good enough

The date is very hard to read but it looks like "44".

                    Genossen,
I'm told by Genossen who used to eat DDR tinned bread when they served in "Grenzers" it is best to toast the Bread.

I have two tins of the DDR Bread (unopened) which will remain so...

                      Hello Viktor,

do you have a photo of your two DDR bread cans? Are those cans DIN marked?

                      Thanks

The price has been reduced some time ago, it was close to $2k.
It's a pretty steep number for a tin with rotten bread in it but look around how many are out there for sale.....I could not think of another one right now.....
