it was very common practice. I have somewhere photo where german soldiers came accross russian pow's column and most of those german soldiers had russian 'guardian" backpacks or russian mapcases.

but as said before these are not german belts but russian main support belts for equipment.

yup. this is the belt type that started the thread...gents here seem to think they are not ww2 german....funny how they have turned up here and there. and it would be nice to know their source. ok, we know the 'm44' toruser belt. but what about this one? well, seems like its a fake from thread comments...

So it would seem, I bought this at a Berlin flea market in 2001 for 50 pfennigs so no real loss.

so not sure really...and no real hard news either way on your belt or those of thread starter....the m44 belt, ok, fairly clear. but these ones with the post war-looking buckle...im still none the wiser on these items.

All these belts where used to hold on the sword and sabre in the officer parade or walking out uniform. They are perfectly german ww2 belts but not use for feld trousers.

I have thought in that direction, too - they reminded me at the navy sword belts.
However, as the buckle does not match those, I didnt continue to investigate further in that direction.

So it looks like army and navy had diff. buckles for their sword belts.

Maybee posting those belts in the dagger forum would be helpfull?
