I'm nearly lost for words regarding the reports and the depth of information - an excellent read, as you say out of scope for most collectors.

I've just had time to 'flick read' through them - I can see these being a sunday morning extended breakfast with coffee read, over several Sundays .

Very interesting however.

here is my contribution to this thread.



A very nice, although restored wooden box of pork meat cans, which I got from my friend Ruben Keulers (RKMilitaria).



Food and ration examples are difficult to find. Saccharin packages seem to be an exception, probably because after 1945 sugar was imported to Europe once again. Just a theory.


The omnipresent Esbit cooker, still being produced today. I love the packages with cooking Wehrmacht soldiers on it.


Some finer beverages. A bottle of Mosel wine (1942 vintage) and a bottle of Sekt (still unopened). In the middle a tin of Nürnberger Lebkuchen (spiced cookies).


Soda bottles. A Coca-Cola bottle of 1939 with German text, and a Fanta bottle of 1942. Everybody on this forum knows the history of the origins of Fanta now, I guess.


Some beer bottles with the typical closure. All are 1935-1942 dated. A small apple juice bottle of a Bitburg firm, and a soda mineral water bottle of an Aachen firm. The green bottle has a screw-on closure, and is also for mineral water. These were found on German flea markets just across the border from Belgium.

I've pretty much integrated all the useful information from all those reports into the book. It should be just as informative as Volume I. A lot of new information.

In about 20 Years of Metal Detecting I actually found something new I never saw before. I am digging in a WAFFEN-ϟϟ related Area where a lot of "Tilsiter Bona" Tubes are still present. This Time I found exactly the same kind of Package but with a blue printed "Hans Bär - Jagdwurst"
It´s totally new for me that there is another Content possible! I hope you like it

Great piece. Wurst in the tin/aluminum packing is mentioned in the new ration reports that I have. The Germans experimented with these bags for sausages but they had problems with the sealing on them. They were components of several Emergency Rations that weren't known when we wrote Volume I.

All my Tilsiter Cheese tubes are 125 grams.. The "20" you can read above means 20% fat...

Robert my guess is wartime or early postwar. Overprinting of paper items was pretty common during the war and probably right after the war. During the war black plate cans excess to military needs were distributed to the civilian population for home canning or used for commercial canning. After the war black plate cans were used to feed the civilian population. Cans with codes on the lid generally imply they were produced for the military. Uncoded cans were distributed to the military, civilian population, POWs etc. It is a neat looking can. Does the lid pop off or does it require a can opener to get to the product? Jim
