    Dirk,

Thomas got quite a few. But thats good for all the collectors out there. Finally a desirable and up till now rare item, for a very reasonable price. Jim

Jim, I am 100% sure of its originality. I would stake my reputation and business on it... and for those of you who actually know me, ie Jim, Tom, Mike Baskette and Ed Stroh. that is saying a lot... let the skeptics be skeptical. This one is real...

That's great. If you talk to Norwegians here who were kids at the time, the one German phrase they all learned and remember was 'habst du bonbon?'

              You sure?

Hard to say... Im always open to learning but it appears identical to those in the wartime photos and advertisements I have.

                Thomas and Dirk,

I think theres a lot of confusion about these. Dirk had a similar carton and a fellow collector said it was DDR because of the use of the term Bez. in Burg "bez." Magdeburg. The person who had cocerns pointed to a reference that stated that bez. came into use after WWII in the DDR, which I checked and it did indeed state that. However after further research I know (bez.) was also used before the war. See attached photo. Of course that doesn't solve the mystery completely. Heres a wartime ad which differs from the carton shown. The ad omits the town location (you might have pics/ads which shows the town name on the front). Also in the book we show the Feldpost Knackebrot from Kraft. Its written Burg bei Magdeburg. So we know bez. was used before the war and was replaced by bei during the war. After the war bez. was once again introduced in the DDR. Now the term bei is used.

That being said I believe theres a good chance the carton is wartime. Thomas I sent you an E Mail.

                regards Jim

                  Jim,

Its even more complicated than that. It will take some more research. After a short search I find postcards and documents using the "Bei" designation in the years 1901, 1917, and 1974...

I am out of town so I cannot reference my original photos and advertisements for comparison.

I got your email and will answer when I get back into town.
