    Dirk,

Fantastic Research!. I think that is one of the things that makes rations and personal items so fun is that there is so much learning and research to be done!

@Patrick, Fantastic pics! Thanks for sharing.

      Jim,

I am looking at the photo of the store display from "Das Lebensmittel Fenster" June 1941, (photo page 8, bottom right corner)

And the Krafts display shows the boxes with the lettering as in Dirk and I's examples using BEZ.... It is not coming out so well in scans, did you copy this one from me for reference?

        Hey Thomas,

I had a hard time getting good quality scans from that magazine so I used very few pictures from them. I checked my files and didn't find the Kraft one.Jim

Heres some info from the 1941 Berlin Phone book. They went by Knacke and used the term Burg Bez.. jim

Just as in the text on the box... Im convinced the example I have is now either pre-war or wartime. I will try to get a pic of the display from the Lebensmittel fenster magazine also dated 1941.

                Thomas,

It appears that Krafts Knackebrot was pre war to early wartime. Knacke was a wartime log that carried over into the postwar period. Don't forget my E mail question ha,ha. Notice in the attached picture that the firm went by Knacke-Werk (dropping Kraft completely), Burg bei Magdeburg.

                  Dirk,

Heres the info on Sorte H from Soldatenernahrung dated 1939. I think the H stands for Hefegarung or yeast fermentation. My Germans not great so I could be wrong.Jim

                    Jim,

The back of my Kraft's box list the different types available, indicating that
                    H is for HAUSBROT.

will get back to you on that email tommorow

I have seen these with fake seals with fake SS markings added to enhance value. I look forward to seeing your pics.

Thanks for that link Theoderich. These are the fakes I am taking about. The box itself is real but the seal, the stamps on the seal and presumably the contents are not.
