Austrian Shovel

I was told this is czech not Austrian, there are no markings on shovel and
only the marking K A B stamped on the leather carrier.

Hello,
I know some czech covers (al least mine) have an ink stamp on the inside with the czech lion. Look carefully for that. And no markings on the shovel itself?
Inspect the metal support ring, I would expect a marking there for an austian shovel.

There are no lion markings or anything on the support ring, on the support strap there is some letters/numbers hard to read on the inside of leather.

As far as i'm concerned, i do consider this set as austrian.
the K.A.B. marking is known to be austrian
I did check all my files (doc and pics) and it appears that the czechs might have used at least two types of cover : one is virtually the same than the austrian cover, with or without Lion stamp, with a closed bottom to retain the shovel (like yours), and another cover that has the same construction but with a retaining strap only instead of the closed bottom, in the german way...
The latter is virtually the same as the polish cover, as the polish army also used a pointed blade shovel. I know, it's a mess...

Thanks for the information, being Austrian i presume it dates it 1930s,
Does anyone know if these were issued to ss units or the German army,
if so should there be acceptance markings.

yes the germans used these, you can find period shots, I dont have my books at hand, think there is one in the Brian Davis book, with the two parade soldiers on the cover
