Czech cover

Hello,
As far as i'm concerned, i do consider this set as austrian.
the K.A.B. marking is known to be austrian
I did check all my files (doc and pics) and it appears that the czechs might have used at least two types of cover : one is virtually the same than the austrian cover, with or without Lion stamp, with a closed bottom to retain the shovel (like yours), and another cover that has the same construction but with a retaining strap only instead of the closed bottom, in the german way...
The latter is virtually the same as the polish cover, as the polish army also used a pointed blade shovel. I know, it's a mess...

Polish entrenching tool covers looks complety different than Czech or Austrian, shovel are similar and that is all. Set here is nice Czech army made set, similar to Austrian but not the same. Where is the difference between Austian and Czech?

Belt loop. Austrian were made without blued steel clasp.

Not sure about shovel, needs closer inspection or simply better pics.

Cause KÁB stands for Katonai Átvételi Bizottság wich means Military Acceptance Commitee.

I asked about the shovel but I gues that You just destroyed theory of KAB stamp on Austrian or KuK cover. I quite sure that shovels with handle shorter than in Austrian or Czechoslovakian covers are Hungarian.

But the presence of a stamping doesn't mean that the stamped items is from the same origin...especially knowing that all these different covers were used by armies within the Austro-Hungarian empire. I think that R. Frisch was the one who identified KAB as an austrian marking a long time ago, some other guy (don't remember his name) risking an ID as "Kaiserlich Armee Bekleidungsamt", so obviously no reason to doubt as no refutation never came into light. Now, it's done...

I don't know the exact date but the KÁB stamp was used after the great war,(most probably from the late 20ies) till the end of WWII, as I remember correctly it can be seen on post war items maybe till 1946...
I think the cover is hungarian, you can see some black stamps on the reverse of the leather, wich is also tipical and was used to identify the leather supplier.

KÁB (Központi Átvételi Bizottság): 'The duty KÁB is to officially inspect, accept and certify the quality and the quantity of military industrial and consumer goods obtained through domestic and foreign commerce, which results in legal authorization to the MNB [Magyar Nemzeti Bank] to satisfy the manufacturer.'

As Textor Textrix and Csernus said this shovel is a standard hungarian 1910M shovel which (or just the carrier) was made between 1932 and 1944 (by the KÁB stamp). It is the same model as the A-H 1910M or M1910 shovel but the strap on the leather carrier was modified after the WWI.
