    Late war rucksack??

Another rucksack I would like to have some opinions on.

I know that many of these are classified as being early post-war civilian (see threads http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=219480 & http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...light=rucksack)

This example is in fact very close to the late variant of the medical type rucksacks (see old thread: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/forums/showthread.php?t=188539&highlight=medical+rucksack ).

Hence the reason I bought it for very little in order to do some study and comparison.

    No markings have been found.
Red lined (not printed!) leinen material.
    Rivetted closing-straps.
    Typical german wartime metal hooks.

Note the interesting carrying-straps, made out of the same material as the rucksack itself. Has anyone ever seen similar feature?

    Cheers

          !

IMHO the application of the leather straps make it absolutely civilian. Also the usage of late-late war material makes me say it's post war civil ruck.

Thanks for your reply. What do you mean with application exactly? The type of straps or the rivets?

The shape of the leather closure straps and the pattern of the bag have me nearly certain this is a bag for civilian use.

                Thanks for your input Chris.

I would however not state that the pattern of the bag is typically civilian.

IMO rather military (see the link to the medical versions in my first post). Therefore I had some doubts and started this thread.

Hello, here's my backpack... what do you guys think about this one? My guess is that this is a correct military one. No markings except on metal. Is it rare?

i think this is a post war made rucksack...heavily utilising whermacht bling of the time...

not neccesarily a good sign as they have been faked as well

                          I agree with Steiner.
First ruck: leather straps too 'fancy' (not cut straight, but in curve: too much material 'waisted'!)
Second ruck: although reinforcements on lower web straps (D-rings) suggest wartime production, the 'leichtmetall' (aluminum alloy) used for the hardware rather unusual. Late-war and last-ditch production IMO almost always steel.
                          Both civilian?
'Red stripe'-canvas (Leinen): I found a postwar bycicle-bag with the same stripes (but in yelllowish 'Wehrmacht-style' or breadbag material). Wathever was available was used in the post-'Stunde Null'-Germany.
Post-war assembly of Wehrmacht and civilian parts is also possible. I saw lots of Boy-Scouts-used backpacks, rucksacks, canteens etc. with parts of British, German and other military equipment. A lot of this stuff was to be found on flea-markets in Western Europe (and nobody was interested), before the fakers started to use this material (and made a lot of money with it). I wonder if I should transform my bicycle pouch into a nice pair of MP 44 mag pouches. For personel use of course... ;-)

If civilian, why would it have the extra straps with hooks to attach to ammo pouch/ d-rings?
There is clearly a lot of difference between the two packs, but IMO the second one is military since it has the correct features (web straps, way of stitching/rivets, leather straps and support straps).
If not military, can anyone post a correct one and show the differences?

I guess we're too focussed on the PRE-45 military issue here.

Note that post-war red cross, boyscout, Luftschutz, etc...organisations had also belt-pouches all sort in use (medical, music, kartentasche,...).
