Perhaps that brown one is just rusted? Must be all that X-mas snow in my eyes

Strange sometimes, how some stamped steel buttons rust, some do not, even though tey are right by each other. Perhaps some of them are coated/treated with something?

I quite sure this RBNr stamp is 0/0591/0014 which I believe is Salzmann & Comp. From what I've seen thus far Salzmann never included a date stamp with their RBNr's.

The other similar RBNr that I've found is 0/0591/0010 or 0011 with a 1943 or 1944 date stamp always included (thus far). This I believe to be Karl Anton Henschel from Kassel. Maybe this is the mnfg of your zelt with the RBNr dated stamp.

I've seen zinc plated steel buttons and other steel buttons with a different kind of plating more like Blueing. The buttons on Knoffhoff's zelt look like zinc plated from these pics - need to see a close up to confirm that. The one that appears rusty was likely unplated and it's not uncommon to see them mixed together on one zelt especially late war ones.

      Cheers

        Hi Mark,
        good info as always.

Did this manufacturer stamp in the right hand corner on the summer side, not the left as is common?

two different zelts with this RBNr were in the normal spot and 2 I did not have photo references of so I cant confirm where they were.

Can you post a pic of your's so I can compare the styles?

          Cheers

I have two near mint ones, same manufacturer, one 4 panel non COP, one 2 panel, both stamped in right hand corner from the same lot of 5 found together.

I think you have seen them, but I´ll send fotos of them to you again directly straight away.

Sorry, I cannot post them here, I´m not a full member yet (something on the to do list).

            Regards Sonnenwende

ok great. Look forward to it.

Yes - Im also very familiar with a long "to do" list.

Funny though, my X wife's "to do" list for me was way longer than my own.

Thank' s for your comments. I' am glad that I can help you with BIG rbnr.
All the holes on unfinished zelt goes through the fabric. Just for information- this one was used long after war ended by Czechoslovakian Scout Movement member.

knoffhoff: I like your unfinished telo mimetico zeltbahn, nice catch!

Sorry that it took so long, but after a reminder I post close up shots of the buttons of the 4 panel zelt. The RBNr is hard to make out, it could be 0/0591/0014 like Mark suggested. But the end numbers could also be 0814 or 0914. I really can't tell.

RBNr sadly is very faded and impossible to make out. Mark already had a look at it and was able to tell what it most likely was. Unfortunaly I lost the conversation when I had PC problems. But I'm sure he can post it here again.

Last one for today is one I really like. On one side it has a very strong yellow color, on the other side it has a very light greyish color. Unfortunatly no markings are visible.
