    Exciting Discovery

Today I made an exciting discovery with the help of the forum. I bought this M39 tornister from Bill Shea for $65 some time ago. I like late war stuff and I love tornisters! This one has always been my favorite because of the late-war blue canvas used inside. Read to the end for my cool find, a neat surprise for me!

I love the blue canvas! I also hope to get one with the late war lined material inside.

I only have 2 tornisters marked with RB numbers. I have seen maker marked and dated tornisters as late as 1943. I think this pack was made in 1944.

The pack is marked inside with initials and a Feldpost number. I knew the number was there when I bought it, I love named gear.

I was taking photos of this item yesterday and I started wondering what unit used this Feldpost number. I posted a thread in the Order of Battle section of the forum, hoping it was a combat unit.

Ian Jewison kindly responded to the thread: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...d.php?t=220680

I can't believe the Feldpost number is from 16. Kompanie, Panzergrenadier-Regiment 25 (12. SS-Division)! I had this for years and never realized it had originally belonged to a Panzergrenadier from one of the most famous German units of the war- SS-Hitlerjugend. I feel very certain that the number was written in the pack during the war. I know it wasn't added to make it more expensive or desirable. This is the only piece of Waffen-SS equipment I own. What a surprise! Thanks again to Ian for his help.
