The leather belt loops are sewn on to the outside of the cover, not between the front and the back as usually seen in earlier carriers. The carrier shows very little use.

The shovel is textbook Wehrmacht issue, marked oao 1943.

Here is another straight shovel with a Presstoff carrier. The carrier is marked fuq 1943. The shovel itself is not typical German manufacture, and I believe it may be a pre-war Russian or Polish shovel, though some say it is actually post-war Polish. I have seen other similar shovels mixed with other German shovels and carriers and I do believe that these type of shovels were used by the Wehrmacht.

The shovel is marked with a difficult-to-photograph stamp that looks like a dog's head.

Here are straight shovels of the "folded ears" type. I think these are WWI German or Austro-Hungarian. They have a band around the metal that connects to the handle, this type of shovel can be seen in period photos of Heer troops.

Here is my only folding shovel. I found the shovel in a surplus store for $12. The salty carrier shows some repairs, probably post-war done.

The shovel is marked daq 1943-H, with a faint Waffenamt below (looks like WaA 726). I would like to see any other photos of shovels anyone else has.
