The shovel is marked with a difficult-to-photograph stamp that looks like a dog's head. This is said to indicate post-war Polish production.

Sorry, but that would have been impossible! I have found the dog's head/Horse-head/wolfs-head on 25-30 shovels from the Norwegian army, with OD painted handles, mixed in with all other known German WW2 makers, and contained in original covers. The possibility MIGHT exist that they are pre-war Polish, captured and reused by the Germans with new covers.

I have come to that conclusion about the dog's head shovels also. I do believe that these were pre-war shovels that were captured and used by the Germans. I have seen them described as Russian production as well. I don't know where they were made. I have since gotten rid of mine and replaced it with another one of German manufacture. I did edit my comments in this thread.

I would also love to see a tan rifle grenade launcher pouch!

I have found an almost endless amount of variation in original straps. Here are four different types.

Here is a comparison of three original straps with a post-war Bundeswehr-issue strap.

This short strap is made from a very coarsely woven material that shows lot of color variation.

Here is a comparison of two very different well-worn pull tab straps. The dark green strap is made from a synthetic material, the tan strap is coarsely woven from rough fibers.
