Thanks Chris, I am going to set it up in a Local Museum for display. I've taken it for a few rides around the block though. I also plan on using it in my static displays at events. I have a post war bike that I am currently working on to "tear around" with. WilliamComment

Very intersting thread! I must admit I didn't really know that much about the details of German military bikes, so thanks for posting all the photos. I know its not German, but here's two pics of my Swiss Militaervelo, its a 1958.

The make is Condor,who were the largest maker of bikes for the Swiss Army. The rear hub is a Torpedo, the same as on the other bikes posted here.
It was hard enough getting my hands on a Swiss bike here in New Zealand, so I don't rate my chances of finding a German one in NZ very highly. However maybe I'll find something when I head over to Europe in August.
The saddle on the bike posted by BergfuhrerKiser appears to be a Swiss one.Comment

Hi Jerry,
Maybe I can help you. I have both a swiss 1950 and a 1943 Durkopp Truppen fahrrad.
They are a few differnces between the two.
The durkopp has a standard frame and the swis is oversize steel tubing.
The durkopp has 28 inch wheels the swiss 26"
The durkopp has removable handlebars the swiss does not.
The durkopp has a black enamel painted rear hub the swiss is nickel plated.
The durkopp has a black painted front hub the swiss is nickel paited.
The durkopp has galvanized wheel spokes , the swiss is painted black steel.
The durkopp has blued cranks and pedal arms the swiss are painted black.
The Durkopp has a larger pack rack at the rear than the swiss.
I am sure there are more
For me these are the major differnces between the two.
Looking at them side by side they do not look the same.
