              update!

              Here's another clear picture of this type of rucksack in use. I found it in 'The Second World War' by Ivor Matanle. Picture is supposed to be taken at the end of the Battle of the Bulge, early 45.

                Another 43 dated Bollmann produced backpack which, taken previous conditions in mind, I strongly believe to be a medical version as well. Although I can't make out any clear signs of a once stitched RC.


                Interesting as well is the fact that it has a WaAmbt 'style' eagle with only the dop below it - no typical WaAmbt number !

                        Awesome Rucksack! True is that I‘ve never seen any of them damaged or abused. Strange…

                        Anyway You hit the nail here:- What items were stored inside? Does the content involve both kind of stuff:- medical equipment and personal items of Sanitater?

                        These questions concerning also medical Tornister with pocket for mess kit with sewn under fur flap. For my it is more than obvious that content of medical bag packs hold three sorts of stuff:

                        1. Battle equipment ( mess kit, Zeltbahn with accessories, maybe blanket in colder months)
                        2. ...together with set of basic personal items ( comb, razor, sewing kit, cutlery, iron rations etc.)
                        3. ...and various medical inventory.

                        Considering that artillery (or cyclists) bag packs or plain infantry Tornister, were in the same size as theirs medical counterpart, and amount of 'regular' stuff carried by plain foot soldier, there is not much room for storage all this sorts of items together.


                        Does anybody own any materials which can help to answer? If yes please post it here

                          Has anyone seen a period photo of a sanitar's helmet painted white with red crosses, just like the dummy in the museum photo? Sorry for moving out of theme.

                            Several do exist indeed and have been posted on this forum...Even movie-footage is available. I strongly suggest that you do a search in the headgear-sections in order to get what you want.

                                In your previous post you raised indeed good points which should need to get answers on.

                                The factory of Bollmann still exist today - still making doctors bags too if I'm not mistaken. Maybe a fluent german speaking member should contact them and ask if anything is available in their archives on these rucksacks.
