The abreviation for the Reichsmark was RM - so the Reichspfennig's
abreviation was 100% RPF/RPf and NOT Pf.

Pfennig was not used after 1924 and until 1945 all items bearing a price should read RPf or RPF !
This also is applicable to all other items like soap, shoe-cream etc.

        But Ferdinand,

the photo is proof enough, isn't it? I wondered about these matches too, and the internet doesn't always provide clear answers. As I have some matchboxes from the same type in my collection, I would like to share my opinion.

        1) The eagle is indeed very similar to the Bundeswappen, BUT also to some Weimar-style eagles (so pre-1934). Didn't the Bundesrepublik take over some symbols of the Weimar-Republik? Anyway, a commercial product doesn't have to conform to state symbols, otherwise every toothpaste and shoepolish should haven the TR Reichsadler with Swastika! OK, I know some 'period' products that have them, but most of these are proven to be fakes (Scho-Ka-Kola with eagle, boot polish with eagle, 'Bunkerkerzen'...). This eagle is IMO no problem.

        2) I should have to check my collection, but I'm almost sure that some products that are most certainly period also have the price mentioned in Pf an Mk.

        3) There's a magnificent website about German commercial products through the years where you can check various 'period' items. It's www.markenmuseum.de. Here I found several brands and their history, but it's in German (no problem for you) and it's far from complete, of course. There are even some inconcistencies, because the famous brand of 'Welthölzer' (blue packages) is mentioned as founded in 1945, where in fact this happened much more earlier (around 1930 I think...). Still, a treasure of information! Very interesting: sometimes a comparison is made between various forms of packaging within the same brand throughout the years. Check for instance the famous 'Odol' mouth water!!!

        Greetings,

          Again wrong link.

This is the right link to the history of German brands ('Marken')

I checked the Markenmuseum for Welthölzer, and now it's correct (1930). The matchbox next to the text is NOT 1948, but COULD be pre-1945. This brand used the same label throughout all of the 1940's. Still a nice website...
