    Hi,
I'm pretty sure that SCH means Swiss. FA = Federal Army?

              Harry !!!
I am not expert on spades - but there is only one type of straight spades I accept (paranoic )

              thats the ones I accept:
              http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...5&postcount=32

these are guranateed german ww2 period production...
If I would start collecting also all types of spades that germany manufactured from 1911 till 1939.... and all kinds they captured during WW1 and WW2.... I would get crazy

I wouldn't buy a supposedly WWII German shovel with a ring around the metal where the shovel joins the handle as on the second one above. Also the octagonal handle is undoubtedly WWII Swiss as was mentioned.

The second shovel has a very uniquely German ring to the handle - it is formed from extensions of the tang of one side of the shovel. From one side it looks like it has a ring - from the other side it doesn't. It isn't a separate and moveable ring like all the other "rings" I know about.

Thanks David I was thinking the same thing, Since I collect German field gear 1935-40 I would be happy if it was just a early model not necessarily made between 39-45. I do know how this differs from the normal ww2 German spades http://www.1944militaria.com/origina...at_shovels.htm
I was just wondering who you guys thought made this one.
                    Thanks for your comments. Rick
