    MAX show report

How was the MAX regarding the SS front? Heard there were plenty of nice SS lids that moved. How about any nice insignia? Market on cufftitles these days?

It's a shame that there has not been more information regarding this year's Max show! Most years we have been very fortunate with seeing lots of pictures of all of the best items that were at the show. I know that it is a lot of work for people to do that but it is priceless for all of us guys that could not make it. I also know that some guys don't like you taking pictures and it is a pain to have to ask.

Hopefully someone might be able to post a few pictures of the higher end items that were being offered. Thanks!

I saw people taking pictures and dealers complaining about their items being photographed !

At least I'll see if I can do one on the SOS in February.

I found an interesting sheet of old repro collar tabs I decided to pass along- and still have a photo of a Hungarian dealer’s huge (4-6 foot long) field canvas sign that reads Feldlazarette ss pz gr div „wiking” but we were sworn not to post it anywhere. There was a LOT of “no pictures, no posting on forums” going on. To some extent I get that... but on the other hand, doesn’t really help drum up interest in the shows/hobby. Many times pictures have been posted and someone asks “hey buddy, who had the table with the foreign volunteer shields” or something to that effect. Rather than attacking something as potentially fake, I’ve found it only brings the show home to guys who can’t make it for one reason or the other, and is basically free advertising. But to each their own. I totally understand the privacy perspective, I have items I don’t want to share online to just anyone on a semi-private forum... but why is it ok then to display it in a semi-private room of 1000 tables of militaria and even more coming to browse and buy? Imho those items stay at home, or it’s fair game. The greater likelihood is they will sell faster that way too, if that was the intent to begin with..

Wittmann just posted a 52 Minute Video on Max 2018 on YouTube. Check it out, very Interesting stuff. I was there for two days and I still enjoyed watching the video. Also Regimantals Militaria posted another nice video.

I usually take 40, 50 shots of the hall and individual tables every year and post on GDC.
This year,,,Very few would let me take a photo of their table,, I posted some shots on the GDC Honor Ring forum and Community Forum.. Not as many as I would have liked but I was trying my best,,the dealers just weren't having it..
              Believe me ,,,its their loss!

GDC? Jesus is that site still going?

Dave Hohaus banned me because I complained about some nitpicking issue. Last time I looked every post I had made was gone and so were all the original threads in the SS section. Such a shame to lose all that collected information.....

Quite a nice video with Wittman - the Fritz Klingenberg SS presentation sword is a nice piece.

Don Boyle made some good comments.

And Walter is there again, too. Looks like he ran out of toilet paper. But he still got a ton of the TR Christmas ornaments.

I actually watched the Wittmann & the Regimantals video The first day they were each available. It's always much appreciated when people post pictures or videos. The Regimantals was a really nice guy but if I remember correctly The majority of his video was on a few of his purchases. They were not really in my collecting interest. Every year I watch Wittmann's video and enjoy it. This year was no different. I do wish he would spend more time with higher end dealers. But maybe they will not give him much time or in some cases the approval to video their stuff. It was a nice surprise to see it was one of the longer videos. Each year I do get a laugh at the Christmas ornament guy. I think it was last year but could have been a different year and could have even been the SOS, but the guy had that Reinhard Heydrich plate, which to the best of my knowledge is a known fake.

There is no doubt in my mind that if there were good pictures and information on the dealers nicer items, they would make quite a few extra sales! Sure, they may get a few negative comments but I'm sure it won't be there first time. I have made quite a few purchases by just happening to see something that I wanted in a picture or video. In fact I Purchased the SS M38 Gorget from Wolfe after seeing it I think in Whittmans video last year.

Frankly , IMO if it's on public display at a public venue you can take a picture of it regardless of what the dealer says.

Bingo.............Take as many pictures as you want. You don't need permission. That's BS. Don't even waist your time asking. What's he going to do.......try and charge you extra. Pictures can be used to support the authenticity of the material. I guess nobody wants their fakes photographed and "shopped around".......Get a picture of the dealer while your at it.

I plan on going to the SOS next Feb. Can someone pm me with some reputable dealers? Thank, Max.
