Allgemeine SS wearing SS Kraetzchen photograph

Men of the 65. SS-Standarte Schwarzwald wearing the ultra rare SS Kraetzchen with second pattern Totenschaedel. Possibly the only photograph in existence that show Allgemeine SS wearing this first SS field cap. This photo also shows that Officers wore the same type of cap. The two men on either side without jackets appear to be wearing SA style belt buckles. Freikorps medal and Gau badges are being worn. Sign says "Alte Garde Reserve hat Ruh 1929-34."

I like the highly-polished leather gaiters and lace-up shoes some are wearing

A fascinating photo, very good quality too! The evolution of the SS uniform is a very interesting subject indeed....

FYI. The original photograph doesn't look this nice but is faded, scratched, minor details missing and generally tired from decades of neglect. I spent hours using digital software trying to breath life back into this image which is something I really like doing for old photographs. I'm glad you guys will be able to enjoy it. Perhaps this photo is of the newly created Reserve Sturmbann in 1934, hence "Reserve hat Ruh" ? The "Alte Garde" might equate to "Alter Kampfer" which was used for members who joined before the Reichstag elections of September 1930.

A great photo. Interesting to note that most are wearing the 1933 Munich festival badge. My guess is the pic was taken at the 10ryr anniversary of the putsch.

Also an excellent shot of what appears to be a very early SS Officer belt and buckle!

Notice the striped pants and and SA belt buckles. Remember this is 1934, years after the SS acquired their own belt buckle. Interesting!

                        "New style" skull

Interesting also is that they all seem to be wearing the M34 skull and not the Prussian style one. The Krätchen I have seen in person had the prussian style deaths head.

I can only guess the two gentlemen without jackets have been transfered from the SA into the Allgemeine SA and are awaiting proper uniforms. Both are wearing shoes with gaiters also.
