Men of the 65. SS-Standarte Schwarzwald wearing the ultra rare SS Kraetzchen with second pattern Totenschaedel. Possibly the only photograph in existence that show Allgemeine SS wearing this first SS field cap. This photo also shows that Officers wore the same type of cap. The two men on either side without jackets appear to be wearing SA style belt buckles. Freikorps medal and Gau badges are being worn. Sign says "Alte Garde Reserve hat Ruh 1929-34."

FYI. The original photograph doesn't look this nice but is faded, scratched, minor details missing and generally tired from decades of neglect. I spent hours using digital software trying to breath life back into this image which is something I really like doing for old photographs. I'm glad you guys will be able to enjoy it. Perhaps this photo is of the newly created Reserve Sturmbann in 1934, hence "Reserve hat Ruh" ? The "Alte Garde" might equate to "Alter Kampfer" which was used for members who joined before the Reichstag elections of September 1930.Last edited by BlackWatch1; 02-01-2018, 04:21 PM.

Notice the striped pants and and SA belt buckles. Remember this is 1934, years after the SS acquired their own belt buckle. Interesting!
