          All depends on the item, the condition and how long I have been looking for one.

          Where one often sees the amazing prices paid, is just before an update. Thus many never get to see it, or in the first 24 hours of an up date going live

          Lets not forget that these dealers offer an important service where seller meets buyer.

          However, it has to be waste of Collector Guild time, energy and resources if the price is beyond anyone's interest in the market,

              People that are selling up are trying to get their money back, (paid at the peak of the good times). They add also a little profit to that , which lead to the insane prices.

              Unfortunately there are only a very few stupid enough to pay these prices. Most sserious and high end collectors know the hobby and the market. J

                In 1917 in Russia, they made retail, wholesale and efficient pricing a punishable crime. They spent the next 70+ years with a government directed economy that lacked proper economic feedback, correction and the efficiencies of a price mechanism.

                That is the great thing about proper distribution channels with price signals. Consumers can buy what they want/ need while merchants are motivated to prosper by getting the right product to the right place at the right time.

                Perhaps Virtual Grenadier is a better example than Collectors Guild of a Militaria outlet that gets this right in today's world.

                Markets always sub-divide into high priced segments verses low priced segments for a range of reasons. It is the business that can recognise and meet such demands which can succeed for all involved.

                High prices are not a crime for collectables such as Militaria. However, high prices rule out the consumer who is not willing or able to pay such prices,

                  I have bought from Collectors Guild in the past. paying a price that the item was worth to me... and not buying items where the price was too high for me.... Like many things in life... I do not see where the problem is.

                  As stated before, the price is chosen by the seller. if he chooses a price that is to high, he does not sell... why should that be a problem for me?

                    please allow me not to agree with you.

                    First just to mention that The Collector Guid is one of the most unfriendly sellers ive dealt with.

                    Peter rarely answers emails. Some person cold carrie or something like this handles correspondation.

                    If you want to pay with paypal you are always charged 5% fee than comes the shipping coast as well.

                    They never listen to what you say. If you sell you item with them, you shipp it at own coast, then if sold you wait like a month or 3 to be paid as they do monthly checks. and yes they do not pay you with paypal, but shipp a check and if you live in Europe your bank charges you extra of course.

                    Anyway, about 21.000 for a tunic, well it will stay there forever like their general tunic asking arround 5k for it. Its there for years. I think someone just barried his uniform to stay with The Collector Guid forever.

                    and about selling items on asking price... not quite true. I sometimes contact a seller to offer a price and sometimes it works. I bought ss m43 tunic for 1600 eur while asking price on the website was 4,899.

                    i think sellers always ask to prices on their webpages just to keep high market prices and hope some rookie to buy the item in question.

                    What is even more surprising is that some are selling at these prices. Good stuff sells fast. Is the doom and gloom of 2008 over ? Prices appear to be holding and in some cases on the move up.

                    Looks like when it comes to collecting Militaria the sky has not fallen as some predicted and the storm clouds are clearing,

                      That is true, Don . . . but one has to be careful about how an offer is proposed.

                      Long ago, I found an item at CG that piqued my interest - but felt the asking price was too high. I sent an email offer - and Carrie wrote back to confirm they would present my offer to the Consignor for consideration. To my surprise, I got another email from Carrie to say the Consignor would accept my offer . . . and received a preliminary Invoice that showed my offer as the final sale price - to include the addition of a [rather hefty] charge for delivery . . . PLUS a substantial "Consignor's Fee" tacked on to the total. I bet it was a great surprise to Carrie, to receive another email reply from me - explaining that the offer I made was to include all that extra shipping and "fee" baloney they wanted to pass back on to me. The price I said I would pay, was simply the price I wanted pay - and whatever you and your Consignor do to get there, is entirely up to you.

                      Be sure to consider all that extra "fluff" they seem to like to pass back on to you . . .

                            Very true - that's why I always make my offers "all in" so there's no "confusion".

                              I have always found that complaining about a highly priced item has never solved anything. Generally making a reasonable offer, or walking away, is what I do.
