Relax Vince, I'm sure he meant he can't answer the question as he doesn't know. If he was an expert on SS visor caps, he wouldn't be asking for help with this one now would he?

Question - I have an early Allgemeine SS visor cap similar to this, but it's the smooth badge wool (non-ribbed), and it has typical oil-cloth crown and rust-colored lining..
                1. Is the satin-crown version like this one earlier or later than the oilcloth...or was it private purchase? I don't remember ever seeing an enlisted cap with satin, but I could be wrong.
                hello

                regards

I believe this Is a "private purchase" cap . Very nice example and scarcer than the standard Issued type IMO .

I'm no cap expert but if it were 'private purchase' how would it have an RZM label ? It looks to be a higher quality than standard contract issue cap.

This is not a private purchased cap. This cap was made by a legit cap maker with RZM contract number.

But the cap is made in the more expensive way called "Sonderklasse" with a nicer lining then the normal caps (RobertH wrote it in the correct way earlier in the thread)
