I like what I see, for me a good one.

I like it but the nose opening is not as it should be and the way the teeth are
formed is unusual. A strange TK.

            Tab

            I LIKE the tab.
I also like the buckrum....looks very similar to the buckrum on some early SA tabs I've seen.

Since I have had 3 real ones recently, I'll chime in. I think it's a real one that I would have no problem owning. Congrats It also looks like a rear facer which makes it even better!

I hesitate to comment after I was mocked for daring to comment on a previous Totenkopf thread in February but I will as this one is so different.

The two rows of silver horizontal threads forming the teeth is a regular feature of Hersteller 308. The obverse shows every correct feature to my eye. Beautiful Totenkopf.

But the reverse, however, has me completely confused. Could someone please explain the white cutting guide threads on the reverse? I have never seen those on any tab other than late war, especially a 1940 bullion left-facing horizontal.

How can a tab be a correct 1940 on the embroidered front and look like a 1945 Dachau tab on the reverse? I do not understand. Was this actually done by some manufacturers early in the war?

My thoughts exactly. I cannot explain the thread, for bukram backing folding, on the reverse. This would give me reason for pause.

Thanks for the comments folks, ive posted this tab and an unissued bevo arm eagle for help from fellow members as i have the chance of purchasing them from a local coin dealer who has recently purchased a collection from the father of a recently deseased son who collected TR items, most i saw were period items may i add. These two SS items were amongst a small pile of original insignia apparently brought home by a WW2 vet who served in the RA, the father who was a huge collector of fishing reels swapped them for his son. Both the tab and eagle had a small card with the veterans name ''Homar RA'' and the place were he picked them up, Neuengamme camp. That all the info i have.

Maybe the original wearer/owner commissioned an embroider to duplicate a worn out tab on a Dachau type blank?
The Totenkopf looks original, however it is a little off centre (tilt)!
It may also explain the tension thread on the reverse?

                        Tab

The concern over the white thread is a valid point, but since the tab checks out great otherwise, I'd be curious if that sewing practice may have existed earlier than just late war.
I also like the way the bullion had flattened from age and wear.

I see a line of black cloth around the lower jaw and to the left. Is it possible the tab was taken apart then the skull was cut off a rank side and attached to this one? The backing reinforced with criss cross stitching looks tight like it was done to hold the cloth on. It may have been period done in the field after a promotion or when rank tabs started being worn. What do you do with all those rank side bullion skulls? Answer: you reuse them. I think we are looking at a tab that has been made out of two. The tab itself may have been taken apart and original skull removed [or it's still there under bullion]. Just my opinion. I still like it

Well spotted Yep the bullion skull has been sewn down on top, didnt notice it before as the stitching is very tight and well applied and ive allways said a good photo will show up certain anomalies

the skull by self is orignal, indeed it was added to a collar tab, interesting.
