Very cool and historic ring. Thanks for sharing. If it only could speak.

Concerning my earlier comments.....
In THIS photo, the engraving looks much smoother......
As I said......it's hard to judge by some photos, especially when they're highly magnified.
However........if I were a detective, and someone told me the story about resizing a ring for the health reason as stated, I'd be very skeptical.....
If he was ill for a long time.......then maybe.
What if he recovered, and gained more weight........then what would he do?
File the metal filler down, and ruin the new engraving?
I'm not saying the ring isn't authentic......just that the story makes no sense unless he was ill for a long time.
BTW, from the photo of him, I'm not sure you can see it's a TK-Ring. I'll look again, but it looked like a plain band

How about THIS theory........the name was ground off at the end of the war,
and years later, when the heat was off, the ground-off area was filled in...... I say "years later" because over that interim, he may actually HAVE have lost weight over those years......but a sick person doesn't throw away all his clothes and buy skinnier ones just because he's sick - Ha-ha.

But the ring is 100% real
Regardless of your personal connection to the recipient - be that it exists or not - still an extremely interesting post. Thanks for taking the time to make all off us acquainted.

Lot of theories and if the ring is his and good great and based on that....
Maybe the ring was made too big in the first place and just modified for a more proper fit.

That didn't come out of Gahrs like that!,and they certainly wouldn't modify it. They'd simply issue him a new one...
A guy like that, all he had to do was turn it back in and he'd get another pretty quick..
Odd but very interesting ring! If it is what it appears to be I'd say its one of the best HRs out there!!!

just some observations:
The 'engraving' to the sizing space piece looks machine done. [not a problem]
Himmler and numbers pretty neat,,but the Slb v not so much..
The seam - On the 1st pattern rings they usually are very hard to see. On this ring we have some good views. Even from the top etc. Not even a hint of a seam.
The Himmler engraving is across the rings closure/seam.. IF indeed authentic it would prove once and for all the rings were engraved 'in the round' ,skull already on...
