SS feldpost

Hi All, I was wondering if anybody can help me with this felpost letter addressed to an SS Funker, is there any further information regarding what role this individual may have played in the war by the address ? for example the third line is this the Kompany ?
Any help would be appreciated.

is this letter dated (stamp or at the start of the actual letter) ?

It seemed that the guy was at the time of the letter part of the SS-Karstwehr-Bataillon.

There was in Pottenstein an SS training camp, in which the Karstwehr-Battaillon was located :

On the envelope the address reads :

3rd company of SS-K.A.A. 1 (SS-Karst-AusbildungsAbteilung 1) (an Ausbildungsabteilung is the basic battalion for each German unit in which the new soldier is trained before being dispatched to his final post in the unit).

3rd company, 3rd section (Zug), 9th barrack

"13a" is the postal region code.

The guy was a "Funker", aka radio man. He was learning radio in the K.A.A., it is not known if he stayed at the 3rd company and if he was trained to be a radio man with portable radio, or radio man in a vehicle.

Thanks Vince for the detailed and informative reply. The date on the letter is 20.09.44 the sender is from Vienna. There were other feldpost letters to the same SS Funker, cant remember if he was also stationed in Tirol or if some of his return letters are adressed to Tirol......there were also other feldpost letters to the same man but were not titled SS.

thanks for the additional info.
So at the time the battalion-sized unit was already transformed into the brigade/division, despite the location of the training battalion was still in Potenstein.

Is the "final" unit in the "Karstjäger" is listed somewhere ? As a radio man he may have been enlisted in a lot of units.

Hi Vince,
I cant recognize any further details of this individuals career in this letter, I will obtain a few more of these letters in the near future and see if any further clues are present, it looks like the Karstjaeger have a interesting history and interaction with partisans
