Unless the images were the exact same ones Lorenzo was putting into his book, I see no reason for him to be concerned about having them posted on the forum for opinion, especially due to the value of the trade he was proposing with 'horsetrainer'.....

If there was even any hint of hesitation from a seller about me wanting to post an item on here for opinion I would back out immediately.

          Hi,

Thanks a lot for several comments. For a non expert of these I find it a bit difficult to understand all comments, but the things in question are; clips are fake? Sewing is modern? The black pice differ from other known originals? The fabric is original?

If you want, we can have a coffee and I can give you my personal opinion on the cover.

I thought your statement was interesting and thougt provoking.

In your opinion is the concensus of opinions on the WAF is always correct?

              ... or ...

Do you weigh the various opinions based on your own experience and knowledge?

I don't have a dog in this fight, but IMO this thread appears to be more about the person than the item. The WAF is VERY useful, but one of many tools in a collectors tool box.

Sounds like what some early authors of dagger books did i.e. show fakes in the book in order to establish provenance and then sell the fakes as real, citing the book as the proof of their originality.

                  Hi,

good old trick used for decades by all the crooks in the world (not only in the militaria)... They do the same in the national archives, putting fakes that are laterly "rediscovered" by chance...

                  See You

It's ok buying something based on your own experience and knowledge, however when it comes to cash in your collection (or for someone else to do it after you) it pays to have been a 'concensus collector'

                    Just my 2p worth.

It is hard argue to that point,... except when the concensus changes over time and the the range of accepted originals becomes less and less!

There are a number of items in the Bando book that fall into this category in my opinion. Authentication through publication. I don't have my copy anymore to quote examples but there are a couple or more.

I wanted to hear from you what exactly is wrong with the shown covers, preferably with a side-by side comparison with original "benchmark" examples. If you fail to demonstrate problem areas that would simply mean to me that there is nothing wrong with these covers in the reality here in Russia we have a lot of "experts" each in his own world claiming everything that they see is fake and I mean everything - insignias, uniforms, equipment, every single piece that has been widely accepted as original. Similarly, they can even name fakers and what countries they are made with confidence in their voice. I swear your head would blow away if you only hear them. And I am not talking about some novices here but "experts in the field" including mods of the local forums. Why am I saying this - I don't believe only what I hear from "experts" but what I see so please explain with visuals how shown covers differ from original

This was done, in depth, on a previous thread ... now deleted probably.
