Compare! The insignia spacing is also different.
The surviving fezes are usually the later (unissued) ones!

Werent there also a wrong ordered style? I heard they got Italian fez's instead of another style they ordered

Yes they used French captured colonial ones initially and later copied these (less tall) when they expanded Muslim recruiting and needed more, to include German field gray versions!
