      I think these particular boards and others like it will always be open to interpretation! One person says recon one says kz...most are undecided. Either way I have a rare set of boards that I'm happy with!

        Yes, that´s the most important thing, IMO!

          Here is a pair of Heer Recon boards that Bill Shea has for sale. I will say that my boards in artificial light,ie inside look darker than in natural light. I can definitely see them as Recon then, but they are much lighter in natural light, not dark like traditional Recon, but not light(almost tan), like traditional KZ.

                What are we discussing now? The Luftwaffe shoulder board you are comparing with are golden yellow, not brown.

                  You will find a detailed discussion and images of the copper brown "recon" colour on this thread;

                  http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...ghlight=rarest

                  Please keep in mind, once they stopped using the copper brown piping for WH recon in 1942-43 then the shoulder board manufacturers used up the existing stocks of copper brown piping for WH construction, WL signals & SS KZ. Thus copper brown waffenfarbe on shoulder boards can be confusing,

                  Chris

                    Great reads! Now I'm really confused, lol......So what do I have Recon or KZ? If I read 90th's comment correctly, after discontinuing the Kupferbraun for Recon in 42/43 manufacturers used the leftover stock for other designations,KZ being one of those and since these boards were picked up unissued from Dachau in 45 it's safe to assume more than likely they are KZ?

                      Since its suppose to be mint, I guess you can choose. Cause you will probably never learn what year it was produced.

                        Just revisiting this thread...... I'm getting everyone's opinions on originality of these boards....the stitching, construction, etc.....perhaps I'm being paranoid, but I have yet to find another pair with cross stitching on the top side edge of the boards......any help is greatly appreciated!

                          I believe the pair of straps offered on The Ruptured Duck are army construction, (light brown), not recon (copper brown) and that KZ should be piped in the identical color.

                            As stated in another thread, after Recon was no longer a designation the leftover waffenfarbe stocks were used in other applications. My main concern is the originality of the boards.

                              My two cents: Copper brown usually has a red tint. Boards in question are (to me) iight brown.

                                For me there is nothing wrong with the cross stiching,Here is a board i owned.
                                It may not be clear but it has the cross stitching next to the piping.
                                Cheers
