In the thread that I started in 2011 which I linked to in post number 11, I showed six different SS officer eagles (5 original, 1 reproduction). All six officer bullion eagles had "unterlagen". However, the reproduction officer eagle from the auction had fake unterlagen.Originally posted by ww2.collector View Post
The next thing to check once you have established that the unterlagen is there, does the unterlagen glow under a black light ? Once the glow or lack of is confirmed, then check what the unterlagen is made of. On "SS officer eagle number 4" in my thread which is the reproduction, the "unterlagen" is quite different to an original and does not glow. However, on "SS officer eagle number 3" (veteran brought back variation with only "six" feathers instead of the regular seven), the cardboard of the "unterlagen" is 101% correct in every way.
I have no problem with a stone-cold mint eagle being original and often the "unterlagen" can be hard to see because the bullion threads are tight and in new condition.
However, based on the images shown here, I am not feeling very positive about the one that started this thread. For me, it needs a serious hands-on inspection to be able to say for sure,
