    Hi,

Thanks a lot for all commets.

    Chris,
You needed a better picture of the skull so I have tried to take a new one. Hope it can be used to verify the skull as well (499/41).

    Thanks again for all comments.

        Hi guys!

373, 475 and 380 were numbers made in Austria in the 1980's.
All you have to do, is look at their quality to know they are horrible.

I still cannot tell anything about the 499/41 skull.
I don't see anything wrong. It's probably OK, but need super high quality
pictures. These pics are just not close to the necessary quality.

        Best, Chris

            360 mark

I saw a bag of 360 marked eagles and skulls at a showin Maryland behind the table of an Austrian wholesaler whose name sounds like F*ck with and "L" in between. Regards Dennis

ps. Sorry no Photographic evidence though.

The piece is vaulted and is a Cupal example...all of the silver has worn from the front:

Dear John T, If the number SS 360 42 did not exsists and RZM 254 42 did exsist than what was the first number of this series was it 254 or earlier for example 254, 255. 256 and so on. regards fusilier. ps was the last number 822.

                      Hi fusilier:

As far as I know the numbers such as 822, 155, 36, 254 etc on SS items are numbers that represent manufacturers of items. I have also known that they are referred to as SS contract numbers, but certain numbers such as "155" are found on buckles and items such as hat eagles and this number is attributed to the Assmann firm and spans more than one year. I do not know if the number were given out randomly, or in any order but it is interesting to note that an early producer (O and C) had a low number which was 36..and they retained that well into the war....I have seen number higher than 822, but what is interesting is that the 822 is found on zinc buckles made in 1942, while numbers with four digits can be found on SS daggers made before that year.

                      John

Dear John T, Thank you for your reply regarding ss contract numbers, presumly what i think happened was this, probably around 1936 the ss started to give various manufacture these numbers so if it started in 1936 the first factory that was given a contract was given a number ie a low number and as more factorys where given a new contract they where given a new number for example circa 1936 whould be something like 1 to maybe 50 and the following year it whould be 51 to 100. or they may have started at 36 and every so oftern the new factory that was given a contract was given a number that was not in sequence or it could have followed the RZM codes so for example if a certain factory was given a contract and that factory RZM code was something like M1/60 and they had a contract they whould be given a new number so if the next contract was M1/75 they whould be given a number that whould follow on from M1/60. I hope i have not given you any brain damage from my reply. regards fusilier.

You are mixing apples and oranges. RZM manufacturer codes and SS contract numbers are two completely different things.

You should look further. There has been several "SS 155/36 RZM" and "SS 155/42 RZM" marked SS eagles posted on this forum.

                              Best, Chris
