Here is the tunic on display with my SS M43 cap that no doubt was also liberated at some point from Dachau. Note that the wool used on the cap is the exact same, captured Italian wool as on the tunic. Very hard to find matching caps in this shade and type of wool.

Mark, is the story about the tunic being found "in a wall by a GI" accurate?

The tunic is not and were not in discussion. It is a onelooker with all typically features of this "contractor" or better a depot code.
The problem is to trust in an unmessed and used tunic.
I would like reverse sewing of the eagle, at the moment I see a nice tunic restored.
If request of seller is 13000 EUR (I remember this value) I can't suggest to Salvatore to buy.

Tunic and insignias look OK to me, but Recconaissance? Should be golden yellow on a late war tunic like that. IMO KZL brown.

Don...I have no proof that the tunic was actually found in a wall. I have the previous owner's name who had it in his possession since the early 80s. He supposedly purchased the tunic from his neighbor who was a mess Sgt. at Dachau in late '45. The neighbor stated that he brought the tunic back.

I've owned a lot of high end tunics and cloth over the years. The tabs appear to be original sewn and sucked into the collar. The cloth has an even wear and patina (yes tunics and cloth have a patina to them). I can honestly say that I'm 100% comfortable that the insignia is original to the tunic. The boards are very rare to find in enlisted. I've never owned a real set of enlisted KZ boards. The arm eagle is also originally sewn with a period technique.

Just a killer late war tunic!

Why would a tunic be stuffed into a wall, when they should have hypothetically been lying everywhere? Not to cast doubt, it just seems odd.

It would have been even better if there was a photo inside the pocket of it being worn. I am not aware of, and have never seen a single period photo, of what is widely accepted as the Dachau clothing shops Totenkopf collar tab being worn (including Dachau guards where they were made). One can only assume there were thousands taken by US soldiers. Can anyone show a period photo of one being worn?

P.S. Mark that killer M43 is enough to make any collector weep with envy
