An example of how opinion can vary from person to person even among advanced collectors. However it is still surprising to me that they passed this one. Are you sure they didnt say that the tunic is real...but not the insignias.I agree with SJP on the cufftitle it looks like it was embroidered on a blank band but not very well. I hope you didnt pay what a real one costs for this tunic.

I must also join the ranks who would not add this tunic to my collection. There is nothing about it that appears period to me.

Tunic is a put together with semi quality insignia. Made to take someone. I wouldn't have this in my collection.

Thanks Guys, all insignia ( eagle, collar tabs, cufftitle, shouldertabs with pips ) were deemed to be original, with the following issues.

          questionable cyphers
original collartabs but most likely reapplied

          Thanks for your input

one last thing I forgot to mention, the collar is original but has some inconsistencies in attachment , it may very well be put together but it didn't cost me anything as it came through some relatives, I think it is interesting to hear everyone comments as you can always learn something..thanks

Why post it then if you already have opinions from two "authorities" on the subject. Im confused with your motives.Nothing you or John Casino or Mike Horetsky says can convince me this is a real tunic. In fact I believe John may be a member here perhaps he can add to the thread .Show some evidence to support the appraisal like period photos of such an eagle or an example of it on any other tunic in respected collections. How about a photo close up of the runes just for the oportunity.

                My thoughts exactly.

Hey JohnPic, I posted this to get some online opinions, which vary and is fine with me, just like I have asked individuals for an opinion that can handle items in person . That's the motive, I am not trying to convince anyone of anything. There you go

David, Like others you take a defensive stance upon my questioning what motivated you to post it. No need it was just a question since you were adamant about its originality according to two expert appraisers.

You were given opinions by a few here who are not lightweights in the area of collecting SS items.I have had over 12 officer tunics pass through my hands in the past 30 years. Ive never relied on Mike Horetsky,Dennis Paxton,John Casino,Steve Wolfe to tell me what is or isnt. I learned by trial and error hands on.You posted a distant picture with a poor looking tab and eagle and are giving us peeks which so far lead several to believe its a fake. How about a picture of the collar tab so we can see. Maybe the tunic is good and the eagle was replaced and cuffband added later.Though even from a distance one can see the tab is not standard for an SS officer tab, theres a slim chance of originality, but adding up the quantifiers I would be skeptical.I would just like to see it all.But if your done posting thats fine too no big deal.
