ss sleeve eagle, good or bad?

I see what you mean looks like an original tropical eagle that has been put on cloth backing. Once again your experience and opinion in this field are invaluable. I can't thank you enough. I believe I will pass on this one. It was on a dealers website: A Walk In Time, who has an iffy reputation, which is why I posted it.
Well I guess my quest continues, I did get a nice unissued sleeve eagle from a fellow forum member but man I would love to have a uniform removed one.

P.S I should post some pics of my SS Totenkopf division toolbox, will try to tommorrow.

The eagle is a real one but as stated these,sewn to material are poping up in Manions regularly. To buy an authentic removed from a uniform eagle I would only buy it from a vet source.This trick has been used for years and not just with tropical eagles. Also almost every officer tunic I have seen with bevo eagles(about 7),unless it was a converted enlisted tunic, had these hand sewn on very neatly.

Your eagle is original. Did you look at it under a very high powered loop or if you have access even a microscope? My guess is that you will see traces of yellow dye. I wouldn't be suprised if your eagle was actually a tropical version. Here is what it looks like when you increase the color saturation...Best, John

Could I ask you to do the same enhncement to the photo I posted of the reverse side? To my untrained naked eye, it seems quite apparent to me that there is a difference in the color of the threads as they appear on both sides (on the back side they seem unquestionably gray). If that is correct, it would seem to prove that the darker color on the front is in fact from dirt and would support that it was an authentic piece of uniform from which I removed it twenty years ago.
