I remain unconvinced. Artful attempt IMHO.

Call it what it is, a heer Inf officers cap that was likly stripped and the SS insignia added. I wouldn't call it period but you can tell yourself what ever you must to sleep well at night if you waste your money on it. Matt

Here's mine, but in coarse wool.(as opposed to trikot, also minus leather sweatband) This was a direct walk in by the vets daughter who brought it home. I found the insignia combo strange as to the eagle. I had always thought this to be a later war model. But the price it was bought for was super cheap & the daughter had her story down to the letter. So 100% they way it was "brought home".

In regards to the estand cap, the Trikot fabric and sweatband would suggest an Officers cap from day one and not an EM upgrade.

It's a fairly simple job to machine sew a replacement skull and soutache on because of the fold down flap. If we could see a photo of behind the flap, it might give a clue as to whether it's period sewing or not.

Machine sewing a replacement eagle on without opening the lining would be impossible IMO. However, a skilled person would be able to replicate machine sewing by hand. I can't tell either way from just looking at these photos though.

Perhaps the seller could comment on the issues raised in this thread?

                          Ss sidecap

Imo the ss sidecap is textbook and 100% original. Definately not an Kriegsmarine example with SS decals.

Thanks for posting interior photos. They helped. I like the shade of the sweatband on the liner. I don't think that the cap interior was ever opened and I believe now that insignia is period applied.
