All the pins I can think of are rectangular or circular in profile

Add to that the 'antiqued' finish and we're already in trouble in my opinion

Unless I am reading this wrong, ain't 220 Pounds ($330) kinda' cheap for a visor skull and eagle??? That would make me a little nervous, in and of itself!

          Hi,

I don't want to name the dealer (just yet) - I'm new to this and he or someone who knows him may frequent the forum.

I want to speak to him and see how it first.

He isn't a specific SS, German or even WW2 dealer, just general militaria. But was very cocksure that the items were genuine, even though I was very sceptical given their pristine condition.

As for prices, I hadn't got a clue - I had seen sets for less than £200 on the UK military dealer websites, and a set went on the bay yesterday for £60 I think along with a huge wodge of other badges.

Until I joined and looked at the classified I hadn't an idea how much the stuff goes for, and to be honest I think if I had I would have chosen a different thing to collect - some of it is stupendous money

I just wanted a small collection of various items that I am fascinated by - fossils, old coins and german WW2 militaria being the main.

          I'll post pics soon hopefully...

Yes, prices are perhaps slightly lower over here but also the vast majority of stuff is fake

The deal sounds too good to be true. Being a new collector you would be wise to post photos here before you buy anything. Also its important to handle or at least view photos of real stuff.

              Good luck!

                SS insignia

                Hi,
Until we see photos they sound rather like the pairs of eagles and skulls for sale in the 1980's that were very well made but with spurious markings.
I had a pair of which I was very proud until the truth was revealed a few years later.
                Good luck,
                Grossfuss

As mentioned, all is speculation unless pictures are provided.

I thought I had seen/handled a a real set at the weekend. Another dealer at an antiques/collectors fair had a set for £170.

In worn condition but he insisted they were genuine.

However, the skull had SS markings on it, and in fact the set was identical to some in a recent thread on here that was certified as fakes (Austrian 70's)

He didn't like it when I questioned their authenticity, saying he knew the provenance.

I have also seen many sets for sale on 'schneiders treasures' website that have markings deemed as fakes on here (including many with SS on the skulls). Does he sell fakes for hundreds of dollars?

                      I'm well confused

Is it 1,000,000% certain that no skulls ever had SS markings?

A reputable dealer will be happy to see his name up here. He'll get accolades. It is no problem for him to see his name and website up here as it is a reaffirmation of his good business practices.
A crooked dealer??????......Well, who really cares.
BTW, if you get offered a deal on the Internet by Pawel Novak, or anybody like that, grab your wallet with one hand and delete the email with the other!

He hasn't got a retail website.

It's a fairly small general militaria dealer in Wolverhampton, UK. I have searched this forum but his name/shop haven't been mentioned before from what I could tell.

I'm hoping I can get away from work tomorrow to get across before he shuts.

The shop has an interesting array of stuff, so I don't want to burn my bridges. But I also don't want to get ripped off.

Will report , and hopefully post pics, tomorrow.
