Sir All the unaltered factory examples I have had the pleasure to examine had zips; my belief is that the example you are referring to had those removed at some point in time.

Totally agree, and like seeing the eagle on chest instead of the sleeve. Wonderful find Bill, textbook! Congratulations!
Lacking functioning zippers on some specimens could indeed be an issue of parts shortages,
as it is a late war garment, the Reich crumbling...I agree !
Again what an awesome find. CONGRATS !!! These are so cool.
If we could only find photographic proof of these being issued late war, that would make it even better !
Unfortunately this period image is probably not such a smock in wear...(regular dot tunic+pants) or is it?
Red line a pocket flap?
Splinter jump smocks were the norm of course ..note added SS sleeve eagle in 2nd image.
Any chance of getting a better picture of the smock in wear?
Probally no need for zippers , because they where not jumping outta planes anymore. My moms cousin was given the choice of enlisting as FJ or SS late end of the war..He wisely picked FJ.. Only saw ground combat in the Netherlands..Zippered smocks would have been totally useless at that point in the war IMO.
Zippered smocks would have been totally useless at that point in the war IMO.
What a nonsense - then there would have been no need for any pockets in any tunic produced then, a lot of material could have been safed when tailoring the M44 tunics without pockets.
So soldiers would carry their stuff in the hand or in bags over the soulder like Santa....
Hi
Is there any chance of seeing the inside of the smock? Are there any markings? Could we see what pop studs are used? All the examples shown only have the outside view.
Thanks
John
