Unfortunately yes Mike, and things will only get worse, we all need to thank winkler and others of that ilk for their business and contribution to the hobby. But for us it is better safe than sorry now hence this "healthy paranoia". I only wish the business was conducted the way you do it and every dealer out there was as honest as you

This means a great deal coming from Mike, you can take his opinion to the bank.

As a matter of fact, while conducting research in NARA at College Park, MD a few years ago, doing reasearch in the SS Personnel files and the SS RuSHA files, I had looked up the officer who's name appears in this tunic as a favor to Mike. I got a hit on it, and the fellow was indeed a veterinarian. There was not much to the file, many files have been destroyed and many had a good deal of their original contents detroyed, with some having only one or two pages left, while other Personnel files have over 70 pages and are 100% complete, the same is with the RuSHA files. I recall this particular officer only had 2 or 3 pages, but indeed he was there and he was a veterinarian. I made a print out and do not remember if I sent it to Mike, but I will look and see in the coming weeks. Since there was not much "meat" to the file I might have simply mentioned a few details to Mike and not sent him the photo copies I had made, but I will check.

Indeed. I researched him several years ago as I was always fascinated by this tunic. From the July 1944 Dienstlisten, we can confirm he was an SS-Hauptsturmführer der Reserve with his patent dated 1 April 1943. On 10 February 1944 he was activated to the Waffen-SS as an SS-Hauptsturmführer. On 11February 1944, he was posted to the 17th Panzer Division, a combined service arms unit at the time. There is no record of him ever being in the NSDAP. He is listed in the Dienstalterslisten and he appears in just one edition. There is some early SS correspondence from 1935 and a reference to his service in the NSKK. In mid 1935 he is listed as the SS-Sturmveterinar in Reitersturm 2/West , and he appears to have joined the SS very early. He was a Heer officer and in the SS reserve at the same time. He earned a few awards and the ost medal. Quite a interesting soldier. As John Pic stated this tunic was on the forum years ago. For the record Weitze did not sell it. When this tunic was posted on the WAF years ago, it was learned that Kaman's son was also a veterinarian. Martin Stiles originally sold the tunic.
