Not uncommon to see the upper lapels pressed open..I have had a few in which the wearer sewed them back in this fashion.

Very nice original tunic, IMO all the insignia has been replaced/restored and the tunic most likely was stripped. My first step would be to research the name on the tag.

Yes, offcourse, but I'm talking about the buttonhole. I find it odd to see one there while it's an open collar and that there's no button on the other side.

The name on the Tag is to a Veteranarian who served in France the tunic has already been discussed more than once.

The top button would have been removed to press the collar open...It was manufactured as a 5 button front, but the officer at some point liked the open collar look better.

Who can see differences about an original tailored pre 1945 tunic and a perfect tailored expert tunic from 1980 or later on? No one, some dealers have perfect tailors. No matter about the tag or whatever. It's a minefield.

Before the internet and ranklists being readily available, fakers often used tunics regardless of who they were named for. I really do not collect SS or follow this section of the WA and did not know someone checked his name already. Many older fakes are named to people that had nothing to do with the branch badging and rank etc. It is, or at least was, an easy way to to smoke out built tunics. Now they are much more careful.

It's very unwise to openly discuss prices of pieces on ebay or auctions as this will influence the bidding prices...

                      Kind regards,
                      Gerd V

Isn''t it a bit unusual that this tunic has five-button front like a combat tunic but no collar hooks And IMO never had them as the collar is constructed differently with no room for hooks

Really ? The Tunic is an original nobody faked it in fact why would they fake a less desirable cut to collectors with a non combatant branch ? I laugh at all the supposition and paranoia, yes it is safe to ASSUME restoration but the tunic itself is real the insignias are real. It is a real nice looking piece as well.

Most of our perfect fakes are of highly desired cufftitled combat branches and also of the desired M36-43 cut both officer and enlisted types...and a majority are just rebadged Heer uniforms with well disguised shadows of heer insignias.

Nice tunic. There is no doubt that it started life as a standard 5 button closed neck tunic and was modified which explains the button slit and severe lack of symmetrical proportions. (1,2,3)
I agree with Glenn. The lapel alterations were definately done at a later stage and pressed open ( neck closure hooks removed...).
At war's end (V neck LW style) open neck tunics became more fashionable for officers with or without throat decorations. (I doubt a Veteranarian would have earned a RK...(or RK-KVK).

It reminded me of my 7 button Dutch tailored Heer NCO Feldgendarmerie tunic, which also had the collar/lapels modified like this, but much better symmetry!

I am just seeing this thread and will comment that having had this one before, it was my impression is that it was 100% original. I found a very nice loose bullion veterinary sleeve diamond stuck down in the cuff. Pity to see it trashed here, but that seems to be the way things go nowadays.

Thanks for that information, I too see nothing wrong with the tunic or insignia. Sometimes I think that either I have gone crazy or the hobby has when I read the critiques.
