Talk about needy! I've never seen metal numbers on these early tabs, and wonder if anyone else have any they feel are original. I'd appreciate opinions - thanks!

More help - metal regimental numbers on tab

I would really like to know if any long-time collar tab collectors have seen these metal devices on non-elongated tabs. I got it this way many years ago, and the tab is good - but why the metal number instead of embroidery? Does anyone have any photo's of this being worn in actual period photos? This is mystery that I have been trying to solve for 25 years - thanks.

below is somewhat of a comparison in how your tab looks compared with another, although your examples looks well executed the angles are way off

The tab you've shown is pretty close to the one I posted yesterday (same outfit too!); roger that on the difference in angles. The providence on the tab is pretty good, however - I never questioned whether the tab itself was real, just the number. A collector had it between the vet and I, and I was curious as to whether he'd messed with it, as the veteran didn't remember anything but the runes and the number of pieces in the group. I appreciate your read on this item.
