    Sleeve eagle help!!

    Hi All,
Please, need some opinions on this sleeve eagle I bought as an original back in the late 80’s. Over the years I felt it was a fake until today. I saw one on a dealer’s website, it looked exactly like the one I have which got my hopes up….again. Is there any chance this one is good?

    Thank you,
    Rodney

IMO it only corresponds to known fakes!

JLS, Ludwig, John and Felix, Thanks for your help…….
Man, got my hopes up when I saw one on the dealer’s site for sale. Wish WAF was there in the 80’s, so now it goes back into the junk/repro box…..again and there it will stay!
Felix, thanks for the heads up on the pinned thread..

Hi Ludwig,, Yup, got mines in the late 80's. I gone through the Pinned: Links to Threads of interest & importance by Gary Wood and I can't believe how well and aged some of the SS stuffs are. Gary posted several sleeve eagles (post #78-#79, #38 and #36) like mines and even with one being sewn on a piece of sleeve cloth to make it more real. Adrian Stevenson also posted one (#90), all looks the same. Scary that so many were faked, glad I didn't get into the SS stuff.... but the few I got... FAKE!!

                  Thanks again!!!

It IS a fake but appeared in a line drawing in the Bender book 'U.O. & H of the Waffen-SS' vol 1

Thank you All for your help!! here’s the other SS.. , all bought in the 80’s as originals. Glad that was all I bought…. as SS goes!

Hi Ian, is there a chance you can post the line drawing of the sleeve eagle. Maybe that is why so many were sold as original back then.

                      My SS fakes !!

                          Hi Ian,
Thanks for posting the pictures!! That looks very similar to my (fake) sleeve eagle. Did the SS produce this type of sleeve eagle during the war?

Here's a side by side picture..... that drawing is dead-on!!!

                          Aloha,

                            No

I have one on a fake 'SS Mountain Troops' tunic dating to the 70's I would imagine they date to the late 60's/early 70's

Thanks again Ian, you’ve been a big help. Collecting German SS memorabilia, one needed to have seen and handled many (many) original pieces, which sadly I didn’t have a chance back then. I stopped after the sleeve eagle and stayed away from SS ever since.
Please post your tunic.. how was the quality of the reproductions/fakes back then, could they have pass for originals?

                              Aloha,
