Well, after 62 posts on this thread and 2142 views I'm still waiting for someone to prove with hard EVIDENCE that this cover is a fake.

The only person to talk any sort of sense has been n160 who if you remember got so much credit for this thread:-

        http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...e+needle+cover

The rest of you seem to harp on about this cover being a fake with no reasoning or explanation.

And the same thing is happening in all high-end areas of this hobby. Pretty soon there will only be a hundred collectors left, talking to themselves...but you can rest assured they will be the only ones who knew what was real.

Oh yes! Although - luckily - I have never bought one of these covers I still know very well what it is like:

My first "ss camo" item was a pair of dot trousers. I bought them for 750 Deutsche Mark. That was about 20 years ago. When I later learned they were a Janke made reproduction I wasn't feeling too great about it.

This was my first "expensive" fake, it was not the last.

I don't think so. Yes, you have a responsibility as a buyer but the true cause for this whole thing here is the source of that cover.

Anyone else who wants to buy a nice replica can PM me. These are not made to fool, only to complete a display, etc.. They look really close.

Interesting discussion here about this early war SS-Helmet cover, still for sale by the Collectors Guild for 9,999.00$.
In my honest opinion this Helmet cover is 100% original then the stitching is realy not the same as on the Italian fake covers.

                      Kind regards,

                      Ron.

Thanks! Very nice, so far I didn't manage to find a "4" in the VT variant.

                          Cheers

                            Owen?

                            Hi,
Owen "kammo man" used to be one of our resident SS camouflage experts/ enthusiasts and frequently added knowledgable input but he hasn't been on WAF for some time. Is he still collecting?

                              Paul,

I was in close contact with Owen quite a few months ago now about this same cover. He told me that he and a close friend of his, who was also very knowledgeable about SS cammo, sat in front of a large screen monitor to scrutinize close up photos that I had sent to him. He said there isn't anything as good as a hands on inspection. but I'm sure he won't mind me copying and pasting his last PM to me. Here it is:-

                              "G ,
Your cover is NOT the same as the classic L....... (Italian) type.
It has a real good chance of being a good one .
                              o"

I notice it was back in July the last time Owen was on WAF. I hope he is well.
