I don't understand why he is hiding the rear pin markings. A third grader could take better photos and their not prohibited in any way. Only impressed markings are accepted on these. The pins are most often knurled or notched if you will, but can be straight as well. Is this a dealer?.

thanks wraith - his answer: 'It is marked on the back with what appears to be GesGesch... and has a serial number, my iphone can't seem to get a clear picture of the writing.'

not a dealer so far as I can tell; just a guy.
again - if marks and numbers are STAMPED not raised is it bound to be good or just another clever latvian fake?

If its impressed it should be good, never saw a fake example done with impressed lettering and properly, but his behavior in hiding the markings knowing there is a at least a couple with raised letters on sites out there makes me wonder.

I share your concerns. Have you guys visited third reich depot lately? I said i'd need in-hand inspection... Before making a long drive i'll ask specifically whether raised or impressed.

Is that supposed to be the same pin?. Was this a clarification photo sent by TRD? Are these from Third Reich Depot?. Simple question as you may need mods in a few minutes to get to the bottom of this one, and then the pin better be correct.

Third Reich Depot is handled by a member here, he is a seller on E-Stand and his photos can be seen here and in other places.

As you can see his photos on those is much better, and this pin is not on E-stand. If that pin is bad you have a paid member and dealer trying to backdoor you on what may be a bad pin. If that turns out to be the case then it should go to the moderators as a scam. He should come up with legit photos as he can take them and is doing everything not to.

I agree that the fact he's not able to get a clear picture of the pin is a bit of a red flag. I don't buy the "my iphone doesn't take good pictures" Those phones can get some pretty clear pics. Unless the lens is covered in vaseline or something.

no - the pin I posted is different -- it's the one with the crap pix I've been asking about....... again, I erred in sending a clear image that I'd seen here on waf while doing some homework. I referred to the 'depot' b/c they have several pins that may not conform; i.e., one has no markings at all...

Your terribly confusing, we were talking about the sellers photos and you start talking about driving to TRD to see if the markings are raised or impressed. Maybe you should take some time to search the forums for these pins and see what real ones look like. Then find a seller who has one and can take photos.

                                you've misunderstood me, actually.
I meant I'd drive to see the 2 items a private seller has for sale, items I started this thread about: 1) a late dachau sleeve eagle and 2) a civil members' pin.
trd only entered into it when I asked if anyone else had seen civil pins on offer there.
the only pix here besides the bad ones the seller sent me is, as already stated, one from an earlier waf thread.
I'd have thought it was clear I'm doing research here and elsewhere. but time is short and I want to be sure expensive items are ok so as not to lose money. I don't have time in this instance for a leisurely traipse through all threads on various sites.
that's part of the purpose of waf and one reason I've long been a premier member. no one can have expertise on every subject, so we help each other when we can.
I hope to hear back soon via email about the impressed-or-raised marks; and, if the former, will drive to hand-inspect and likely buy both items.
it's good to have the thumb's-up on the sleeve eagle but obviously that's no guarantor of the pin's originality.
again, I appreciate all input and regret the confusion it's caused you. dw
