Here is a picture of a very, very worn set of boards. The gilt cypher is integral to the boards - i.e. the prongs do not go through the boards but were constructed as a set. Not a great picture...sorry!

Luck also plays a part when searching for these. I was fortunate enough to buy a single LAH slip on in the carpark of a german show last year for fifty euros
If you like cyphers try going for some of the less sexy regiments and trades first as they are cheaper and will teach you what to look for.
