in 1939 he joined the NSDAP. That was not uncommon but not absolutely neccessary.

his "Gebührniskarte" (payment). At the first glance not much information but 2 interesting dates (left corner):

      promotion to Obersturmführer: 30.01.1942
      wedding (post 4): 19.12.1942

next - a RuSHA questionaire written in 1939 as Standartenoberjunker:

his skills and awards: driver licence, riders badge, DLRG badge, gliding licence, medal 1. März and 1.Oktober 1938 (when he was member of "Germania")

and the same questionaire app. mid 1942 as commander of 8./TIR 1.

He was awarded EKII, EK1, IAB, woundbadge in black (10.07.41). He is not married yet - so it must be before 12/42.

the last copy at the moment - his application to marry his fiancee and later wife (seen in some of the pics).

Therefore he needed the agreement of the Reichführer SS. This application included a lot of documents and was thoroughly proved.

The other parts of the RuSHA file are very private and have nothing to do with his miltary career.

I will continue soon with his actions during the battle of the bulge.

concerning the tunic - at the moment its still at the same conditon like shown. I have found a nice HStF collar tab but no matching runic tab yet. The eagle is tricky as well. I havent seen a matching eagle yet.

At the moment I am thinking the best is to follow Rich Morgans advice. I will ad the insignia for display with a few stitches per hand. But that isnt urgent.

I forgot to mention he served in 1937 (april to october) with RAD (3./221) in Battenberg. Compare post 64. Here is the same hill 40 years later:
