Brian, it's all good and wasn't taken the wrong way, I was just explaining why I did what I did.
On a related note, I was told by Hermann Historica that they had sold a white top earlier this year for $30k so perhaps that is a more realistic price for one of these? If you subtract $15k for the black hat in the lot, and the buyer's premium, you're looking at my white top selling for $35k. This in and of itself is valuable knowledge for the collecting community.
great restoration but i don't understand AT ALL the amount pay be new owner for a so rare but so heavy restored visor.
Anyway if he's happy that's all.
I would hardly call the restoration "heavy"- one line of stitching to re-attach the visor and sweatband originally belonging to the cap. The restoration should have no impact on the value in this scenario; at least we know its real!

I would not have found better words to express the same opinion...
Straßburger / When in doubt do without...
- Looking for : SS TK «Oberbayern» flatwire CT.
I wish I could have, but I've been laid off since January 4th of this year and talk is we MIGHT be going back to work this coming January. The sale of these hats was more than I make a year at my full time job.
Regards,
Eric
Eric as someone who has been in your situation (a long time ago now) I feel your pain BUT you have to do what you can to pay your bills and survive.
I had things come out of the woodwork and in my hands that under normal conditions I'd still have today (specifically a sand camouflage early bolts single decal FJ helmet brought back by an 8th Army veteran from North Africa ... he was invalided out before they went across to Italy.) It and the rest of my collection was sold to pay the mortgage when I lost my job as Tina (our eldest) was 3 days old ... it kept us going until we got back on our feet again.
Congratulations on having owned a truly fantastic pair of visors and also in making the right choice in going to Ben.
