We can maybe have some infos with the fonts used for the numberings ?
When I saw these numbers I was sure of it being bogus. Looks exactly like the font of the metal letter stamps you can buy in any hardware store. Even the height of the numbers is standard (seems like 4 mm to me)... The faker did his best, however. He somehow managed to stamp the letters in a very straight manner. Not too clever, though... The 'mythical' date of 1933 is suspect too...
This one appears to be made from modern Walnut wood. I strongly suspect the finish is a polyurathane. Completely unlike all the others (be they good or bad) which are made of oak. I don't even think this piece was made to fool.
Yes I have to agree with the above too ... This was made by someone who has done a realatively good job just copying one. No doubt in time it will find a value

IMO,for whatever it's worth as a lifelong woodworker, a very convincing fake could be made and oak lends itself readily to aging as I stated in another thread.
But in this case it seems you'd be making a fake of an existing fake.

If this has come from a long and reputable collection then maybe this was an early prototype before they wised up and started using oak and removed the date and serial number stamps and the screws.
Or maybe this is a copy of an original that fooled the expert collector.
maybe these were period,or maybe not. i think not but I have no proof, either way. Nor do any of us so all this talk is just that, talk. Until we can fnd some proof either way
Guys I cant speak to the actual box that started this thread. I can tell you that in 1989 I was present when one (a partial one) was unearthed in Berlin.A friend of mine was using a metal detector looking for goodies (mainly 2 mm flak casings) when his machine readings went off the chart. Buried about 8 inches in the ground was the remains of a SS em dagger and what we thought at the time was an old rotting picture frame. The hagal rune & swastika were the only sides remaining ...so I know these existed pre 45...no idea or comment to the originally posted box....
