    build a frankenstein question.

if a mint SS tunic that never had collar tabs is restored or better to say maybe restored with nordland colar tabs will be for collectors a frankenstein?

That would just mean it was restored IMO... A "franky" would be a tunic rebuilt with different parts/components from other tunics to get the desired look or effect.

If i understand your question correctly...

I personally would only consider a converted Heer tunic, or humping up a unidentified ss tunic trying to represent a "personality" to be a "Frankenstein".

If you start with an unissued tunic would call that restoring or adding insignia to place it into a typical configuration, the irresponsible and unethical behavior is when award loops, Foreign Volunteer shields, Field Police Eagles and CTs are added when they were never there and/or the mint insignia is aged (ruined basically). That is destroying history and there is no excuse for it.

To install collar tabs to a tunic that never had them WOULD NOT be an effort of "restoration" - that would be like adding breasts to Michelangelo's David . . .

It has been done, this is the complaining, fast food eating lazy American version of the classic. "Man Breasts".

I think reapplying factory insignia is fine, when you start building fantasy stuff like some members of the forum who create what I will call "disgusting very expensive garbage" it is really a sad ordeal. It really makes me mad and the people who served in the SS and Heer that I knew would be disgusted by selfish collector interests.

Humped up big time! 3 strikes! I ADMIT!
Foreign shield + cuff title + Feldgendarm eagle!

This "treasure" is at a local museum (Airforce base no less!) here in Southern California.
Safely displayed behind glass. Yes one of the museum's "big ticket" items!
Of course its a POS...Converted Swiss tunic with fake insignia.

                    So who is irresponsible now?
and which one would you rather own? My Handschar MP no doubt!

Is this tunic somekind of a joke? even the picture next to it is photoshopped with added insignia.

Nice uniforms you have Tony! IMO none of these wraps, especially from Totenkopf division survived the war untouched so great restoration of the uniform that we would never see otherwise.
