        Sorry, but why are the initially posted straps now good or bad?

            That is your opinion, Besslein. Since you have no straps that are piped from the LAH, this is pure speculation on your part.

            For the rest of the collectors that are curious what a good pair of straps looks like from the LAH, as worn into the early part of the war, please consider these. As Bob Hritz did, if anyone else owns early piped LAH straps, feel free to post them.

              Most if not all I've seen had no piping originally.

                Hi Robert- is the piping or the wool glued down on the back? I cannot tell in the image but the areas indicated by the arrows looks a bit like an adhesive or is that something else?

                    Besslein, I'm not trying to be rude to you. I have asked you to post the boards that are correct for this style and unit of board. Since you do not have these boards but are emphatically stating they are replicas, perhaps adding "IMO" to your declarative statements would be a good idea.

                    Steve, I believe the piping is original to the boards. John, it is part of the cording, not glue though it appears that was in the photos.

                      I think what you are seeing is the cast-off "spider web" like substance left behind by the moths that made those holes! I wish I could comment on the originality of the boards, cause I'd really like to know. You have a couple of knowledgable people commenting on the thread who are being non-commital, and you have another saying "no good" without giving any reasons...

                        I say if the cypher is original, the boards are OK and the piping is a moot point.
                        Probably added to the boards during the period to make them proper to the owners branch of service. Not a problem IMO.

                          I believe the piping is original to the boards due to the wear. The holes on the bottom are worn through where the piping was folded or creased under the wool. The wool on these boards is quite thin, almost like badge cloth, and it appears that the tunic friction wore through.

                          If it was added, then it was worn on the boards for some time, which is entirely possible.

                          The cyphers are worn also, but look correct in terms of their formation.

                              Again, I could be wrong. ALL the missing material is on high points where the piping was under the material, however. Low points between the slight humps have no mothing at all.

                                Thanks to a collecting collegue for these. Pointed, piped LAH boards saw wartime service.
